Baja California Treefrog

Description: Tan, brown, or green base color. The pattern is variable and can consist of stripes, blotches, spots, or can even be patternless. A dark stripe runs from the snout, through the eye, and stops at the shoulder area. Color and pattern can vary depending on the time of day and/or environmental factors but the dark eye stripe usually remains visible. The toepads are prominent.
Call: A series of repeated “ribbits” or “krek-ek”. This call is commonly heard in movies. The vocal sac is rounded.
Size: A small-sized frog averaging 1.5 to 2 inches in length.
Range and Habitat: This non-native frog has an extensive range through most of Southern Washington County. It inhabits shallow ponds, streams, flooded fields and meadows, and several other types of water sources. It is commonly encountered below 6,000 feet in elevation.
Similar Species: The Boreal Chorus Frog has a dark eye stripe that runs from the nose, through the eye, and to the groin area and has small, less prominent toepads.
