Northern Rubber Boa

Description: A unicolored tan, brown, or olive green snake with smooth scales. Juveniles can be lighter shades of tan and sometimes pink in color. The ventral is patternless and cream to yellow in color. They have small eyes compared to their head size and a blunt tail. They get their common name from the loose folds of skin that make them appear to be made of rubber.
Size: A medium-sized snake that averages 18 to 24 inches in length.
Range and Habitat: This snake occurs from northern Utah along the Idaho border, south through the Wasatch Plateau, and east through the Uinta Mountains. It inhabits semi-arid foothills, forested mountains and plateaus, and rocky slopes. They are typically found from about 5,000 feet to over 9,000 feet in elevation.
Similar Species: This distinctive snake is not easily confused with any other species in Utah.
